This course targets on important niche sector in the design industry, namely the designer, printer who develops and prints their own designs on base cloth for a variety of end uses, including the fashion and or furnishing sector. The emphasis of the qualification is to develop fabric print designers who also have some technical knowledge of the mechanics of printing fabrics. The Bachelor of Fashion Design is a three year degree that prepares graduates for creative professional employment in the fashion industry. The degree aims to produce highly creative, work ready design professionals who can apply their knowledge and creative ability across different work contexts and roles in the fashion industry. In the Bachelor of Design, Whitehouse students are provided with hours of face to face teaching each week, this is around double the amount of teaching and learning time that most other higher education providers in Australia offer.
Module 1 – Personal Universe/ Portfolio
You will have the opportunity to apply for work experience in your chosen sector of the industry during your second year, with the option of a sandwich year between the second and third years of study. On successful completion, you will graduate with a portfolio-based final outcome relevant to your individual career aspirations. The purpose of the work placement module is to enable you to develop professional attributes and subject skills through experience in the work place, and to critically reflect upon your learning in that context.
